Abstract

The article aims to present the assessment of Poland’s membership in
the European Union (EU), i.e. present a list of cost incurred, benefits obtained
(profits and losses) and an analysis of successes and failures of the
Polish policy towards the EU in the period 2004–2019, as well as to show
its prospects against the background of the EU situation today and in the
future. Therefore, the article focuses on the issue of Poland after fifteen
years of membership of the European Union and attempts to demonstrate
the influence of accession on the social, political and economic situation of
Poland and on the change in its position and role on the international arena.
Straightforwardly, it is devoted to positive and negative results of Poland’s
accession to the EU and prospects for our membership of the European
Union. And these are not optimistic.
I am trying to answer a few questions concerning the EU, its future ad
potential Polexit, and I am formulating many hypotheses and theses concerning
Poland’s membership of the EU as well as the EU and its prospects.
Inter alia, I state that there was no alternative for Poland’s accession and
membership of the EU, but the EU needs intensifying and broadening as
without those processes it will face marginalisation in international relations
and disintegration. Another thesis is that Polexit will be a disaster for Poland
because it will find itself between imperial Russia and nationalistic Germany.
It is necessary to do everything to avoid it.
