Abstract
In the article, the author analyzes the input of German diplomacy into the
latest political and economic events in the process of the European integration.
In the broad context of issues in which the European Union has been
involved in the last few years – e.g. the fight with the economic crisis results,
the development of new long-term Financial Framework of the European
Union for the period of 2014–2020, the implementation of the Lisbon Treaty
since 2009, the change of this document motivated by the development of
mechanisms of stricter economic management – it is necessary to highlight the
leading role of the German government in the key European Union issues.
The diplomacy of the Federal Republic of Germany is characterized by a
consistent, open to changes in the international environment of the European
Union, pragmatic European policy. It covers all the issues that are fundamental
for the European Union: from the biggest in history enlargement, through
the treaty reform, to the development of scenarios of the fight with the results
of the economic crisis.
The analysis of the German diplomacy’s input in the above-mentioned
EU activities shows its important role of a creator of the EU solutions, a
mediator and a designer of the crucial agreements. Due to the skillfully carried
out policy of formal and informal coalitions, Germany effectively implement
its plan of action in the European Union, striving for maximization of
benefits resulting from the membership in the organization.
