Abstract
The purpose of the article is to examine new trends in the policy of
European states towards higher education. The analysis is broken down into
three sections. Section 1 looks at the drivers of change in higher education
from the policy perspective at the European level. Section 2 analyzes seven
distinct trends in the European higher education. And section 3 concludes the
discussion by illustrating how these trends, in combination with the strategy
goals set out by politicians at the European and national level, are pushing
the European higher education towards a more market-driven, cost-conscious
and results-oriented system.
